Campground FAQ

We get a lot of questions. These are asked the most often about camping at River View.

River View Campground spans a spacious 170 acres and even borders state forest lands. Plus, we have over 1.3 miles of beautiful river frontage to enjoy!

River View Campground officially came to life in 1991. Fun fact: it originally was started back in the early 1970s as Lou Nagy’s Rifle River Campground.

We’re a family-owned and proudly operated campground, by Joanne Schmid and Todd Golebiewski.

We work hard to balance all the needs of our campers, especially for larger groups. Sometimes we need to make adjustments so everyone has enough space and can be near their group. If you have a preference, let us know, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you—but we can’t promise a specific site.

We specialize in group camping, and charging per person helps each camper pay their share easily. It’s a simple way to keep things fair and clear for everyone.

Our campsites are designed with groups in mind and can be quite large. We’ll make sure you have enough space and/or sites for everyone based on your group size.

A list helps us make your check-in smooth and fast. Plus, it’s crucial for safety—we need to know where to find you in case of an emergency.

We’re a popular spot and book up quickly! Requiring payment 30 days ahead helps secure your reservation and gives others a chance to book if your plans change.

You can request a specific site, and we’ll do our best to make it happen. However, we can’t guarantee it.

Sure! Just check with the front office to see what’s available. On quieter weekends, this is usually no problem at all.

Of course! Just remember that Michigan law requires dogs to be on a leash at all times. Please clean up after them, and ensure they’re well-behaved—aggressive or excessively noisy pets may need to leave. Pets must be supervised at all times and never left in your RV, car or tent unsupervised. ie: If you go down the river, you can’t leave your pets behind, they must go with you.

Yes! Just bring proof of $100,000 liability declaration statement of insurance at check-in. Only licensed drivers are allowed to operate carts.

Sorry, off-road vehicles aren’t allowed on our property.

By law, full-hookup sites (sewer hookups) aren’t allowed within 200 feet of the river. Some existing sites are grandfathered in and permitted.

Most of our campground has Wi-Fi coverage. The full-hookup section and cabins have great connectivity, and riverfront areas usually have strong signals outside of your RV.

Cable television is available at a few select seasonal campsites. Our WiFi network can support video streaming on other sites.

In most areas, yes! If you need an open spot for your dish, just let us know when booking.

We have 24/7 security on busy weekends and patrols throughout the park. If there’s an issue, just let us know, and we’ll address it promptly.

Deposits are only required if there were previous issues with your group. If everything goes smoothly and your site is left clean, you’ll get your deposit back.

To protect our trees from disease and pests like the Emerald Ash Borer, outside firewood isn’t allowed. Don’t worry—we sell firewood at the main office and can deliver it to your site.

All visitors must stop by the main office to register and grab a campground pass. Here’s what you need to know:

Daily Visitor Fee: $10 per adult. Kids 17 and under are free when accompanied by an adult.
Visiting Hours: 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM. All visitors must leave by 10:00 PM unless staying overnight (overnight fees will apply).
If visitors leave within 2 hours of arrival, they’re eligible for a full refund of fees, as long as they return their pass and check out at the office.

Our cabins come with a half-bath, a coffee pot, mini-fridge, microwave, and a grill/fire pit combo. You’ll need to bring your own bedding, linens, utensils, and dinnerware.

River Trip FAQ

We get a lot of questions. These are asked the most often about River Trips at River View.

Reservations are a good idea on weekends or busy days since our equipment can book up quickly. Weekdays are more flexible, but we still recommend reserving ahead.

We schedule trips a couple of days in advance to accommodate changing group sizes and keep everything running smoothly. We’ll do our best to match your preferred time!

Missing the bus usually means missing your trip, but if there’s room on another bus, we’ll get you on board. Just know that late arrivals are the last to board.

It’s about 10 minutes to Moffatt Landing and 20 minutes to Greenwood.

You may not leave your pets behind and unattended. Pets must accompany you on the river trip.

We won’t send you out in dangerous weather, but we do run trips in light rain or cooler conditions. Rain checks are only issued if conditions are deemed unsafe.

Yes, just ask our staff at the bus stop, and they’ll get you sorted out.

At 6 PM, the Rifle River becomes a fishing stream, so rental traffic needs to clear out to give anglers uninterrupted access.

Greenwood is too far for tubing—it would take over 10 hours!

Trips need to start by 1pm to ensure everyone gets back before the 6 PM deadline.

Michigan law requires everyone to have a flotation device. Canoes and kayaks come with flotation cushions, and life jackets are available upon request. Tubes are considered flotation devices, so no extras are needed. Children 12 and under are required to wear a life jacket in addition to a seat cushion.

On slower days, no problem if you have a special request, just let us know. However on extremely busy Saturdays this might not be possible. 99.9% of the time we will be running composite Old Town Discovery 169 canoes and not the aluminum boats.

Sorry, our tubes aren’t for sale.

Yes, you can! However, we can’t provide transportation for personal gear, so you’ll need to handle all logistics.

You must pay appropriate take out fees if necessary if accessing other commercial livery property and must have that arranged prior to departure. If you are found to not abide by these rules or refuse to pay take-out fees charged by other liveries, you will be asked to leave River View immediately as this violates the operating agreements we have with other liveries.

No, the bus is only for customers who rent from us. Also other operators may charge a take-out fee for personal equipment.

If you want a guaranteed spot, full payment is required when reserving. Otherwise, we’ll do our best to accommodate you upon arrival.
