River View Campground offers canoe trips ranging from 2 hours and up! We can accommodate you whether you need 1 canoe or 300! Reservations are always recommended and required on weekends. We feature the best "Old Town Canoes" which are a blue/green composite material. They are very comfortable, quiet on the river, and go over rocks much easier than the traditional aluminum canoes, which we also offer. While we do our best to honor requests for specific types of canoes (aluminum vs. composite), on high traffic days we may not be able to guarantee a specific type of canoe. Most of our trips begin with a short shuttle ride up-river to one of our landings. All of our shuttles depart at regularly scheduled times. On busy days we are shuttling many people up river and it is important for canoers to arrive at our bus loading area on time. If you miss your scheduled departure time, you will have to wait until the next shuttle bus that has extra room. Once you arrive at our up-river landings, your canoes will be set out and ready to go. Just take your pick and you are off! Trips end at River View Landing which is in the center of our campground. Once you reach the end of your trip, pull your canoes up and your car or campsite is just a short walk away. If your trip ends down-river from River View Landing, you'll be stopping at one of our partner canoe liveries. We'll be by shortly to pick you and your gear up for the short bus ride back to your car or campsite. To avoid disappointment, reservations should be made as far in advance as possible. We suggest that you reserve an early morning trip to avoid congestion on the river. Sunday through Friday is your best choice if you are looking for a peaceful journey down the river, especially if you have small children. Saturdays from Memorial Day through Labor Day are extremely busy on the Rifle River. There is no time-limit on our river trips, feel free to take as much time as you'd like. Our only guideline is that you must have your canoes back to River View Campground no later than 6pm. All canoeists are provided with their choice of floatation devices. River View offers standard life-vests, life-jackets and/or cushions. Everyone is required to have one of these devices with them while canoeing on the Rifle River. Children 12 yrs. and under must wear a life preserver at all times! All of River View Campground's canoes and equipment are inspected annually by the Arenac County Marine Patrol and registered by the State of Michigan.
